Lafayette on the Bayou by Millennium Jukebox
“Lafayette on the Bayou” is an autobiographical journey inspired by songwriter Christina Johnson’s time living in Lafayette, Louisiana. Most of the lyrics come directly from her real-life experiences, with a little bayou mystery woven through the memories. The song recalls arriving after Hurricane Andrew, discovering the differences between Quebec and Louisiana French, hosting radio programs at KRVS and KPEL, and hearing from a surprised Canadian traveller who caught Stompin’ Tom Connors on the radio while driving along I-10. Along the way are drive-through daiquiris, crawdad mounds, roadside crabs, nutria, possums, raccoons, a living-room gecko—and the ominous sight of armadillos beside the highway with their feet in the air. Humorous moments mingle with darker memories, including a television-station caller reporting “rats as big as my shoe,” a restaurant fire, the death of Princess Diana and a beautiful Steinway piano that had to be left behind. Blending outlaw country with dark electric bayou blues, the video transforms these memories into a humid, mysterious Louisiana dream filled with black water, cypress trees, Spanish moss, radio static and an original blue bayou hound. At its heart, “Lafayette on the Bayou” is about leaving a place without ever completely leaving it behind. Who We Are
Millennium Jukebox is rooted in a lifelong love of music, storytelling, and radio.
I’m originally from Lachine, Québec, and my journey has taken me through decades of work in radio and the music industry — on air, behind the scenes, and now online, where I continue to share music with listeners around the world. Along the way, songwriting was always there: ideas scribbled down, verses written in quiet moments, stories waiting for the right time.
That time is now.
Millennium Jukebox is where those songs finally step forward. It’s the place where I focus on writing, recording, and performing my own original music — shaped by years of listening, living, and learning what makes a song connect. While I’ve written throughout my life, it’s in this chapter that those songs are being fully realized, recorded, and shared.
My work blends traditional songwriting with modern tools. I perform my songs myself — on keyboard and guitar — and I also use carefully chosen AI tools to help refine lyrics, arrangements, and musical ideas. Whether it’s a Songwriter’s Edition (my own voice and performance) or a Millennium Jukebox Edition (where my AI band and musicians help score and expand the sound), the heart of every song remains the same: my words, my stories, and my emotions.
The goal is simple and personal — to bring these songs to life honestly and thoughtfully, and to share them both online and in intimate settings like songwriter circles and local performances.
Millennium Jukebox isn’t about chasing trends.
It’s about honouring the journey — and finally letting the songs be heard.
